Educational Architect based in Parker, Colorado.

I am passionate about creating high performance learning spaces to positively influence the lives of the students and teachers who use them. Crafting school architecture in response to site constraints, the unique needs of the client, and with purposeful attention to the responsible use of resources is a challenge that I find particularly rewarding, resulting not only in beautiful projects but most importantly in supportive and enriching environments where students can thrive.

I’m happiest when I’m growing, and eagerly embrace change as an opportunity to learn new things.

Africa

One of the most unique experiences that I had growing up was living in Africa for three years while in high school. After my freshman year, my parents, sister, and I decided to take on a huge adventure and moved to a missionary kids school about 20 miles outside of Nairobi, in Kenya. The school was on 60 acres of savannah with a resident family of gazelle and giraffe who would wander through from time to time. It was a small school of only about 110 students from over 30 different countries, with a US college prep curriculum preparing students to attend four-year colleges in the United States. My parents taught at the school for seven years, the first three of which I was also there. After my graduation I returned to the US while the rest of my family stayed in Kenya.

Of course, the wildlife safaris we experienced were incredible and climbing Mt. Kenya and Kilimanjaro major bucket list accomplishments. But the thing that has stuck with me from that time more than anything else is an expanded awareness of my place in the world. Living for an extended period of time in a third-world country opened my eyes to how different cultures live and thrive, and taught me that happiness is not tied to possessions or status. Experiencing this as a teenager in high school made a dramatic impact on my self-awareness.

Hobbies

I am someone who doesn’t sit still very well. I like to try new activities to challenge and inspire me. Sometimes it’s enough just trying to keep up with my two boys who play competitive soccer and baseball. Other times it involves endurance sports, such as triathlons, spartan races, or cycling events. Or perhaps family camping or ADV motorcycling. Regardless of the activity, I find satisfaction and inspiration in pushing myself to do hard things.
